Chaminade's Tommy Barlow Named Missouri's Gatorade Soccer Player of The Year

The junior midfielder is the fourth Chaminade soccer player to be selected Gatorade's Player of the Year in Missouri.

The Gatorade Company is no stranger to the athletic program at Chaminade College Preparatory School, and today the school is back on the sports drink firm's radar.

Midfielder Tommy Barlow was named Tuesday as the 2012-2013 Gatorade Missouri Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Barlow, a junior, scored 27 goals and had 17 assists this year. He was a key cog in the Red Devils' push to the state title match, where the team fell to CBC.

Barlow becomes the fourth soccer player to earn Gatorade state honors, following Mike Roach, Tim Collico and Brad Davis, although he's the first junior at the school to win.

The company will name a national winner in May.

Chaminade's Bradley Beal was honored as Gatorade's national basketball player of the year in 2011.

"It's really cool," Barlow said after a Tuesday afternoon press conference. "Those guys are incredible athletes and its just an honor to be part of that. It's crazy. I can't believe it."

Barlow said he's in the process of visiting college campuses and meeting coaches now. He is undecided about whether he'll play for Chaminade in the fall or play with the Scott Gallagher Academy.

Under new rules in place for the first time this past season, elite soccer players now have to choose between prep programs and the USA Soccer academy system.
