Express Scripts is a fast-growing company that is growing and is an important company in health care, particularly in regard to the Affordable Health Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.
Sheldon Harber, CFP ® and President of Asset Strategies, Inc. with offices in St. Louis and Chicago tells what we need to know about Express Scripts.
Express Scripts is a Pharmacy Benefit Manager – PBM for short.
They play a big role in today’s health care system because they try to reduce the cost of harmaceutical products. If you’re going to have a prescription that’s going to last a long time, it’s cheaper to buy via mail order through a company like Express Scripts to reduce that cost over time.
Recently, Express Scripts bought one of their competitors, Medco, and company believes that’s going to be good for their continued growth.
I think the so-called the Affordable Health Care Act called Obamacare by some, plays a role because people see what Express Scripts is doing and will be a part of the process. So I think that the company will benefit from Obamacare. More people will be on new health plans that will require companies like Express Scripts to manage their pharmaceutical needs.
For a lot of people, the types of services Express Scripts provide is expected to become a more important part of their life.
I can’t address or predict whether Express Scripts is a good investment. What I tell my clients is to look at companies whose products are in demand and picture if that company and their product will continue to grow.
I certainly think Express Scripts make that list.
