#HomelessHelpSTL Event Scheduled 8/24
Did you miss the Garbage Bag Gala, but still want to help the St. Louis Salvation Army fight homelessness in St. Louis? You have another opportunity August 24th at the Omni Majestic Hotel in downtown St. Louis.
The Salvation Army is holding a #HomelessHelpSTL Tweet Up August 24th from 4-7 pm. Admissions is free, but you still need a ticket. A $5 donation or 2 toiletry donations at the door are appreciated. The St. Louis Salvation Army still needs help providing goods for homeless shelters in the area. Shelters specifically need toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
This is a wonderful and easy opportunity to get involved in your community. It’s super easy to pick up a few extra items at the store. A toothbrush and toothpaste are a few dollars. When you buy something for your family, add another to your cart and bring it to #HomelessHelpSTL. Plus, you’ll get to network with St. Louis professionals and perhaps meet new friends at a great location.
The St. Louis Salvation Army is definitely on a mission to help the homeless in St. Louis area. Last week’s Garbage Bag Gala was a huge success, raising over $19,000 for Salvation Army programs.

I love the salvation army...one of the true givers in our society...I contribute to them routinely......however.....I have volunteered to help many many times....never get any response

Okay, first of all who came up with the name Garbage Bag Gala?? Couldn't anyone come up with a better name?? Is that suggesting where these people belong? Homeless people would much rather have food to eat instead of toiletries. Where can they use shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste??? Maybe if they came to a shelter. Some of them don't want to be found or they are to embarrased to go to a shelter. You should be focusing more on food & less on toiletries.

Angelika, I appreciate your response. The Garbage Bag Gala is an event that cities all over the US participate in to raise awareness for homelessness. It does not in any insinuate that homeless people belong in trash bags. Trash bags are symbol of the amazing things we can do to make something good. The Salvation Army works hard through various programs to take a dire situation and help people turn their lives around much like designers use trash bags to create something beautiful. Think of trash bags as a symbol of hope.
Yes, food should be a focus. The St. Louis Salvation Army joined with Walmart and KSDK July 13-16 with the Turn Up the Heat On Hunger campaign. The Salvation Army can only help those who seek help. Those that do often seek a warm bed, food, and yes, an opportunity to shower. That is why the Salvation Army is looking for toiletry donations. The Salvation Army programs and shelters help those who need it every way they can. That is what makes the Salvation Army such a great organization. They've thought about all ways to help the communities.
I really encourage you to get involved and donate food and you time.
