Missouri Baptist University Ringers Making History at Conference

The MBU Ringers have been selected to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association’s 75thannual In-Service Workshop and Conference at Tan-Tar-A resort in Osage.

MBU’s bells ensemble will be the only college small ensemble to take the stage. The performance is scheduled for the second day of the four-day event, at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.

Dr. Cathy Benton, associate professor of music and Ringers director and founder, sees the selection as an encouragement to MBU’s music program.

“It’s quite an honor for the school,” Benton said. “It shows a high level of excellence and performance.”

The selection comes after a recording of the group was sent in during the summer of 2012.

A panel of three out-of-state judges, as hired by MMEA, took part in blind auditions and chose the MBU group, making Ringers the first instrumental group to represent the school at the MMEA conference.
