Recently, one of our St. Louis-based companies, Monsanto, was in the news.

Monsanto and Occupy Wall Street made the news recently

There was a protest in front of their headquarters, conducted by Occupy Wall Street and a lot of people are asking, "What are they protesting? Why don't they like Monsanto?"

Well, Monsanto makes products for farmers like weed control and genetically-modified seeds, just to name a few.

The whole purpose is to make farming more profitable.

They want to sell products to farmers that might help them in a draught like we've had this summer in the Midwest. Another feature of their products is fighting plant disease.

Monsanto products are reviewed and approved by the FDA

Yet, there are people who seem to be upset and feel the government department that approves these products, the FDA, who feel they're somehow wrong or dangerous.

I don't know the answer. I'm not a scientist. Monsanto is one of St. Louis' larger employers and continue to grow and expand around the world. They believe they have solutions to create more supply of food and water.

What are these 20-something protestors going to do in 40 years, rely on Social Security?
