More About Hazelwood West High School
Home to the Wildcats, Hazelwood West serves high school students in grades 9 through 12. The school features an active journalism department with a school television and newspaper. It also has freshman, junior varsity and varsity football, basketball, tennis, softball, soccer and track & field teams. Hazelwood West opened in its current location in 1969 as a three-year junior high school, Howdershell Junior High. The building was expanded and reopened as a six-year school, grades 7 through 12, in 1975. Two new building additions occurred in 2005. In 2007 the building restructured into a high school with a separate new middle school near St. Louis Mills Mall—Hazelwood West Middle School.
