Swing of Hearts Jazz Concert
Love is in the air at The Swing of Hearts, a “romantical evening of heart-felt songs” presented by Wayne Coniglio and his 35-piece orchestra, featuring three diverse and internationally renowned vocalists.
Hearkening back to the Las Vegas lounge acts of yesteryear, The Swing of Hearts is heavy on nostalgia, showcasing classic favorites from swing ‘n sway through the jazz era, as well as romantic tunes from around the world.
Fans of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nat “King” Cole and Steve Lawrence will fall in love with headliner Cecil Cope. The Memphis-based Cope boasts a lifelong career performing Big Band music. His distinctive voice has been described as a cross between Frank Sinatra and Burl Ives, and his impeccable phrasing evokes the legendary musical icons that have produced love songs for all generations.
Devotees of Edith Piaf will appreciate the soulful songs of St. Louis’ own Elsie Parker. Best known for her repertoire of the songs of Piaf, Jacques Brel, Michel Legrand, Josephine Baker and others, Parker has performed on French TV in Paris, recorded 4 CDs and has appeared as soloist with many orchestras. She has given numerous concerts with her band, “Elsie Parker and The Poor People of Paris,” in St. Louis and throughout the U.S.
Hailing from Los Angeles, Ginger & Scott have been part of the legacy of great vocal groups for decades. In addition to performing with the Modernaires, Ginger Berglund is regularly voted “best jazz singer” by jazz aficionados, and has sung with Kenny Rankin, recorded with Steve Allen and pianist Paul Smith. She is a featured singer with many other jazz groups. Scott Whitfield is internationally recognized for his work with contemporary big bands, including those of Toshiko Akiyoshi, Bob Florence, Clare Fischer, Bill Holman and Johnny Mandel, as well as his own Scott Whitfield Jazz Orchestras. Together, Ginger & Scott bring to the stage their silky vocal blend, innate sense of swing and reverence for the jazz tradition.
