Mega Mitzvah Day

Temple Israel plans Mega Mitzvah Day

Free Electronics Recycling by MERS Goodwill and an American Red Cross Blood Drive will be two of the highlights of Congregation Temple Israel’s Mega Mitzvah Day on Sunday, May 6.  The entire community is invited to participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor mitzvah projects, all taking place at Temple Israel, 1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Dr. in Creve Coeur.  Refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day and entertainment will be provided by singer-guitarist Rob Aronson.

Electronics recycling hours will be 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Eligible items include computers and all accessories; networking and telecommunications equipment; home and cell phones; clocks; televisions; VCR and DVD players; stereos; audio/visual equipment, including cable and satellite boxes; home electronics, and appliances.  Receipts for tax deductions will be issued on the spot.  For more information, contact Sharon Summers, 314-982-8917 or ssummers@mersgoodwill.org.

The blood drive, sponsored by Temple Israel’s high school youth group, TIFTY, will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Donors can schedule an appointment online  in advance by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and using the sponsor code TISTL, or by contacting Youth Group Advisor Stephanie Rhea, 314-432-8050 or srhea@ti-stl.org. Walk-ins are also welcome.

All other activities will be ongoing from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.  There will be projects for all ages, including a food collection drive to benefit the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry; prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical disposal; cleaning and detailing of Creve Coeur Police Department vehicles; special craft activities for children and adults benefiting Camp Rainbow and The Kathy J. Weinman Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence; informal modeling of work attire to be donated to Dress for Success; Disease Risk Assessment Screenings by the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital; a raffle benefiting Camp Rainbow, spring cleaning of the Temple grounds, and more.
