Get Out and Dance in the Streets, Meet Pirates, and See A Flick On the Fairway

Safety fairs, festivals and music bring the masses out.

When/Where: On Sept. 24, Saturday, at 7 p.m. at the Harold Dielmann Recreation Complex.
Why go: The movie Toy Story 3 will be shown at the Creve Coeur Golf Course. Seating begins at 6:15 pm and the movie begins at 7 pm. Refreshments available for purchase.                                             Pricing: Free.

Safety Fair
When/Where: On Sunday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at BJC Healthcare: in Creve Coeur,     
Why go: Attend the BJC Safety Fair interact with officers from the FBI, Hazmat, Secret Service, and Fire and Police Departments. There will be emergency and disaster preparedness information, a police K-9 demonstration, a taser demonstration, an infant and adult CPR demonstration, free child identifications and an inflatable fire safety house. St. Louis Children's Hospital will conduct free car seat checks, but an appointment is required. Call 314-454-KIDS.

Bike Helmet Fittings
Where/When: On Thursday, Sept. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at in Creve Coeur. All fitting will take place in the Courtyard Garden next to the Emergency Department entrance.
Why go: Mercy Children’s Hospital is offering free bike helmet fittings and safety checks. Bring your own helmet or receive a new one free. Nurse educators who will ensure helmets are properly fitted and give information on safe bike riding.
Pricing: Free. Appointments are scheduled in 15-minute increments.

Gardening in St. Louis County Parks
When/Where: On Saturday, Sept. 24, 8 to 11 a.m. at Faust Park
Why go: “Gardening Chores” at Faust-Conway House Garden allows volunteer gardeners to work alongside Master Gardeners, experienced volunteers and County Park Horticulture Staff.
Pricing: Free. 

Fall Folk and Fine Arts Festival
When/Where: On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Faust Park.
Why go: This event is two festivals in one. For the fine arts side: Enjoy a juried fine arts show with original works in oil, acrylics, watercolor, metal works and sculptures along with live music, great food and children's activities. The folk festival includes a free hay wagon ride to the Historic Village entrance and includes tours, traditional demonstrations of blacksmithing, rope making, pottery firing and other historical arts and crafts.
Pricing: $5 per person which includes admission to both sides of the festival and rides on the carousel.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Annual Scramble for Charity
When/Where: On Friday, Sept. 23, at The Landings at Spirit of St. Louis Golf Course.
Why go: All money raised from the tournament helps support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Metro St. Louis and is used to help provide support to other children's charities through their Grant Program. Foursomes will compete for prizes in either a morning or afternoon round.
Pricing: The registration fee of $100 per person includes a gift bag, lunch, and refreshments on the course.

The Addams Family
When/Where: On Sept. 27 - Oct. 9, 2011 at the Fox Theatre. Performance start times vary, see schedule for details.
Why go: The characters from the TV series come to life in this original musical comedy. The story is about a grown up Wednesday Addams who has fallen in love with a "normal" boy from a respectable family. Changes arise among the famil when they host a dinner for the boyfriend and his parents
Pricing: Individual tickets range from $15 to $82.

The Taste of St. Louis
When/Where: On Friday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 11 p.m. at Soldiers Memorial Park (12th & Market)
Why go: The Taste of St. Louis showcases all of the food, art and music St. Louis has to offer. There will be chef appearances and competitions, a market place, The Kids Kitchen, food from more than 40 local restaurants and more.
Pricing: Free admission

St . Louis Pirate Fest
When/Where: On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at in Wentzville
Why go: There will be pirates, pirates and more pirates. The festival offers live music and entertainment, artisan demonstrations, children's activities, crafts, gypsies and dueling.
Pricing: The cost for an adult daily pass is $10.95. The cost of a daily pass for children ages 6 to 13 is $7.95. Children 5 and younger are free. There is a $2 discount for tickets purchased online. However, a printable coupon for $2 off at the gate is available.

Stone Soup Cottage Cookbook Release Party 
When/Where: On Monday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at at Moulin Events and Meetings
Why go: Carl and Nancy McConnell will introduce and serve dishes from their new cookbook, Stone Soup Cottage, named after their restaurant in Cottleville, Missouri. There will also be recipe demonstrations and food photographer Carmen Troesser will avaiable to discuss her photography methods and answer questions about the art of food photography.
Pricing: $40 present a very special author signing. Ticket purchase includes entry to the event, complimentary food and a copy of the cookbook. 

Dancing Dancing in  the Street                                                                                                                                                                                    When/Where: On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 to 9 p.m. at Grand Center
Why go: Dancing in the Street 2011 will showcase over 700 dancers and 75 performances on four outdoor stages.
Dance performances will be from 1 to 6 p.m.. Join in public dancing to the music of Boogie Chyld from 6 to 9 p.m.. There will be special performances by Quixotic Fusion at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.. You can even learn the choreographed community street dance in advance, designed by the hip hop artists from COCA.                             Pricing: Free and open to the public.
