1892 Historical Home in the City of St. Louis/ CWE

The City of St. Louis has a rich and interesting history of housing. There are homes as old as 121 years that were so well- built in the 1800's that families are enjoying the warmth and charm that these homes offer today.

The tip of the week is:  Do you want to find more time in your day?  Then, living close to your work can save hours in commute time. The homes built in the city prior to and for the St. Louis World’s Fair, are now occupied by many of the professionals who live and work in the city.  Since commuting takes precious time out of the day, living close to places of work, such as Barnes Jewish Hospital, Washington University and St. Louis University, are now in demand.  If you want more time in your day, it’s advisable to think about living in the urban areas where you don’t have to get on a freeway to get to work.

My partner, Terri Matheis and I are representing a historical home for sale on Laclede Avenue between Lindell and Forest Park Parkway.  It is a fabulous 3-story home in the sought-after Central West End neighborhood. In particular, this tree-lined street is unique as it features a meridian with mature trees, so one often sees their neighbors walking along this middle island. This distinctive home is located on a dead-end street, so there is no thru traffic, thus offering a quiet, peaceful place to call home.

You can have the best of both worlds… the old world charm of a 121-year old home featuring exposed brick and deep use of hard wood on the floors and as trim around with doors with all the luxuries of a modern-day home. The renovations include an updated kitchen, powder room and a sleek updated full bath which features a walk-in shower and a separate bathtub. The cabinetry and countertops were carefully selected and the owner utilized the finest materials during the renovation.

Other amenities include a new screened in porch off the kitchen facing the well-manicured and landscaped back yard.  There is another cement seating area for outdoor dining and pleasure. The current owner built a brick 2-car detached garage in the past ten years, so it aptly fits the size of our modern day cars!

The home offers four bedrooms and an office.  The large master with the views of the tree-lined street features two nice-sized custom closets. There is an office/sitting room/nursery off the master. The 3rd floor features a study, large bedroom with attached bathroom.

There is a basement with laundry hook-ups, space for storage and more. The location offers walking distance to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington U, shopping, restaurants, mass transit and more. Enjoy the best of living in Central West End!!

The owner of the home that I am representing for sale bought her 121-year old home ten years ago.  Since the time that the home was built, the walls of this home have carried many memories.  Sometimes, I just sit and wonder who lived in this home? Who may have been born in this home?  Who walked these floors?  Who changed what within the home and when?  What did the original kitchen look like? And how have modern day conveniences changed the entire look and feel of this historical home.

We know that many of these charming homes were once boarding houses and thus housed multiple families and probably changed residents often, adding even more history to these structures.  The listing that I represent was built prior to electricity, so we know that the modern day chandeliers have changed how residents can utilize the home.
