Celebrate our Planet: Earth Day in St. Louis

Join the St. Louis community in celebrating Earth Day this Sunday and find out about ways to improve your community.

“The earth is what we all have in common.”—Wendell Berry, Author

For over 40 years, Earth Day has inspired individuals, families, and organizations around the world to make a commitment to protect the world we live in, achieve sustainability, and to celebrate our planet.

As climate change and human consumption continue to put strains on our environment, the movement becomes more urgent.

Earth day was completely focused on the United States from the very first celebration in 1970 up until 1990, when the movement was taken international. Today, Earth Day is celebrated in almost 200 countries each year.

Join the St. Louis community to celebrate the 24th annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival this Sunday, April 21st from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Muny Grounds of Forest Park. The event features over 200 vendors and attracts 25-30,000 visitors each year.

Learn about sustainable products and services offered by local businesses and organizations, meet area non-profits that share the mission of Earth Day, catch local musical acts and performance art, participate in a number of hands-on educational activities, and enjoy diverse cuisine featuring local, organic and vegetarian options.

If you want to start the celebration early, you can attend the Earth Day Eve celebration – a family-friendly evening with food and music on the Festival grounds, on Saturday, April 20th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Part of the 2013 St. Louis Earth Day Festival, the 3rd annual Recycling Extravaganza, (or REX!), will be accepting your hard-to-recycle items from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the St. Louis Community College Forest Park campus parking lot, off Oakland Ave. All are invited to load up their cars, trucks or bicycle baskets with any (or all) of the items that will be collected by one of a dozen partnering non-profit organizations or recycling companies.

Funds raised from the St. Louis Earth Day Festival support the year-round programming of the St. Louis Earth Day organization, ensuring sustainability.
