“Let’s Move on Course!” sponsored by Hospital for Special Surgery; 10,000 pedometers to be handed out

Fans attending the 74th Senior PGA Championship are encouraged to pick up a free pedometer at the "Let's Move on Course!" booth, located at the Main Spectator Entrance.

The 74th Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid is more than a competition between golf professionals.  It’s also an opportunity for fans to experience the fitness benefits of golf first-hand.  The PGA of America is celebrating National Physical Fitness and Sports Month with “Let’s Move On Course!” sponsored by Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), May 21-26, at Bellerive Country Club to encourage health and fitness by giving fans free pedometers to track their steps while out of the golf course.

Fans attending the 74th Senior PGA Championship are encouraged to pick up a free pedometer at the “Let’s Move on Course!” booth, located at the Main Spectator Entrance, and track their steps as they follow their favorite golfers around the course. Health and fitness experts advocate that taking 10,000 steps a day – the equivalent of walking 18 holes – improves overall fitness and helps with weight control. Ultimately, The PGA of America and HSS want everyone to
recognize the health benefits associated with walking the course when they
play. And, since May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, it is
the perfect time to hit the links for fun, relaxing and enjoyable exercise.

A total of 10,000 pedometers courtesy of HSS will be given away between Tuesday, May 21, and Sunday, May 26, with a limited supply distributed each day on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals are encouraged to visit www.hss.edu/golf and create a personalized “walking” account to record their number of steps online. HSS has customized hss.edu/golf to encourage golfers and golf fans to walk the course by offering them an easy way to keep track of their steps and calculate how those steps contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
