ALDI Opening Pushed Back To May

The discount grocer plans to occupy part of the former Borders Bookstore site in Creve Coeur.

A spokeswoman representing ALDI has confirmed to Patch that the discount grocer's plans to open in Creve Coeur have beeen pushed back.

This week, she confirmed that the grand opening date was now set for May 2.

Developers won city approval to subdivide the property to create two additional storefronts facing New Ballas Road. Patch is still working to confirm who will occupy those spaces.

Late Thursday afternoon, the city building department confirmed that work on the ALDI portion of the building was in the drywall phase. The exterior of the building still shows the outlines of the former Borders signage and the Borders monument sign at the corner of Olive Boulevard and New Ballas Road still stands.

That's a shame. I like Aldi's and shop at their stores. I saw a fire truck there the other evening and wondered if there was a problem that resulted in this delay.
