Burger Restaurant Replaces Sammy Scott's

Dave and Tony's Premium Burger Joint opened last week.

A new gourmet hamburger restaurant, Dave and Tony’s Premium Burger Joint, has opened in Creve Coeur. The restaurant, located in the shopping center at North Mason Road and Olive Boulevard, is the result of a re-design by two of the owners of the former sandwich shop that existed at the location until March.

David Miller, who owns Dave and Tony’s with Anthony Dahl, said that over the year and a half of Sammy Scott’s existence, lunchtime customer turnout was strong, but dinners and weekends were not meeting expectations. He said they “wanted to go for something that had broader appeal.”

The resulting restaurant will feature top-quality ingredients and house-made breads, soups, and salad dressings. Miller said that the management searched all around Missouri for the best beef; and their patties are fresh, never frozen. Dave and Tony’s hopes to stand out from other burger restaurants in the area by offering a “build-your-own” sandwich or salad option, with both traditional and unexpected toppings.

A handful of diners were in the restaurant at the end of lunchtime on Friday, including Charlie Armbruster, who liked the food and atmosphere. He was a former  Sammy Scott’s customer but approved of the retooling, especially now that it offers something different, as another sandwich shop (Jimmy Johns) occupies space in the same shopping center.

Following its official opening on June 7, Miller said customer turnout has been “very good” so far. He said that the owners had planned for a start on the smaller side and were letting news spread by word of (hopefully well-fed) mouth.
