Monsanto Purchases St. Louis Biotech Firm

Divergence, Inc.'s CEO came from Monsanto in 2001.

Creve Coeur-based Tuesday announced the purchase of Divergence, Inc. a biotechnology firm based at the Bio-Research & Development Growth (BRDG) Park on the campus of the.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed, but Creve Coeur Patch has now confirmed what was first reported by The St. Louis Business Journal that Divergence employees have been offered positions at Monsanto. A Monsanto spokeswoman tells Patch that the company will maintain a presence at the BRDG Park, even if some employees transition to other Monsanto operations in St. Louis.

Divergence was founded in October 1999 and is described in the press release announcing the agreement as "a world leader in the application of genomics and informatics to agriculture and infectious disease, discovers and develops products for the safe and effective control of parasites."

Divergence CEO Derek Rapp came to the company in 2001 after 12 years in various capacities with Monsanto, and will return along with all of Divergence's scientists.
