Orchard Lakes Residents To Learn More About Proposed Buyout Plan

A developer has asked to speak at a meeting of residents from the Orchard Lakes subdivision Wednesday night.

Residents of a subdivision sitting on prime territory between Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights in St. Louis County could begin to get some more details Wednesday from the latest developer proposing to buy them out in favor of a retail project.

As Patch reported last week, The Devereux Company has sent letters to residents in the Orchard Lakes subdivision indicating an interest in making "generous offers" worth more than the value of homes in the hope of building a "multi-anchor-based retail shopping plaza."

Dan Devereux asked subdivision representatives for a chance to address an annual meeting of the residents set for Wednesday night in Maryland Heights.

Devereux representatives have not returned multiple phone calls seeking comment on the proposal, which is not the first residents in this subdivision have heard over the years.

A previous story on this development had more than 30 comments, as well as a video from Susan Ryan chronicling the groundbreaking of one of the first homes built in the subdivision. "This makes me so sad to hear," she wrote. "Hope the development doesn't come to fruition."

Others, like 'Momof3' were more supportive:

"I personally hope it goes through. I am so tired of the wishy washy with these developers and for those of us who actually put time and money in our houses, when this stuff comes up, people stop and the neighborhood looks like junk for a year or more. I take pride in my home and while I love it and am happy here, I'm tired of being somewhere that is constantly haggled about being bought out. I would be willing to sell if the price is right and I'm looking forward to seeing what the offer is"

The developer's letter indicated that Devereux was "not interested in using eminent domain as a tool to acquire any homes or property."
