The Fresh Market Could Be Coming To Creve Coeur

A stretch of Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur could be home to as many as four grocers if a proposal to bring in a specialty retailer based in North Carolina comes to fruition.

The Koman Group has submitted plans for a 25,000 square foot grocery store which would be located in front of City Place 6 in Creve Coeur along Olive Boulevard.

The Fresh Market, a North Carolina-based chain that has locations in 25 states but none in Missouri, is the proposed tenant. The company's website bills the The Fresh Market as a "high growth specialty retailer" with an emphasis on premium perishable food.

Representatives from the grocer and the developer could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The project would require a text amendment to allow for increased setback from Olive Boulevard. City planners say that issue will first go before the Planning and Zoning Commission in mid-July.

If the project is approved, it would mean four grocery stores (ALDI, Trader Joe's, Dierbergs and The Fresh Market) would all be located within a few hundred yards of each other.
