The Wine and Cheese Place Opens in Creve Coeur

The specialty store is run by the owners of Provisions.

After the closure of in mid-May, many Creve Coeur residents have wondered where the market went and where they might turn to find gourmet foods in the area. The owners of Provisions have returned to Creve Coeur with The Wine and Cheese Place, a specialty store that will in many ways echo the former institution.

The doors of the new location, at 457 North New Ballas Road, opened June 1. Shelves were still being stocked, and the storefront is waiting on a sign; but the long racks of wine and spirits, well-stocked cheese refrigerator, and selection of gourmet condiments are all in place.

For those who will miss Provisions, the spirits selection, grocery items, roasted nuts, and dried fruits sold at the new store will be familiar. The Wine and Cheese Place will not sell prepared lunch foods or deli items.

Amos Kebmey, one of the principals at The Wine and Cheese Place, said in an email, "We have been a member of the Creve Coeur community for 28 years, starting with the Roasting House, and hope to see all of our customers at our new location as well as new customers."

A representative from the could not be reached for more information about the future of the space left by Provisions in the City Place development on Olive Boulevard. Kebmey does not have any official information but believes that the landlords hope to fill at least part of the space with a food operation.
