Local Hospice Honors Veterans

ST. LOUIS – In recognition of Veterans Day, Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis recently held a ceremony at Rosewood Care Center in St. Louis, Mo., honoring those who have served our country. Many were in attendance of the gathering, including Rosewood residents and staff along with Unity Hospice staff, volunteers and chaplain.

The ceremony began with a presentation from Unity Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, Brenda McGarvey, who is a veteran herself. McGarvey shared her childhood memories of being the daughter of an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant as well her own personal experience with serving in the United States Air Force. Afterwards, a video was shown highlighting each branch of service in the military. Attendees were given an American flag in which to fly high when their individual branch was recognized. Unity Hospice Chaplain Bill Little handed out certificates to veterans in attendance followed by a group singing of the “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In completion to the event, a Rosewood resident led the group in a powerful prayer.

“Unity Hospice enjoys coming to Rosewood Care Center for events such as this,” said Beverly Lee, Unity Hospice bereavement coordinator/community liaison. “The residents are always engaged in our programs and very appreciative of our time here. Our goal is to reach them on all levels with these activities.”
