How Do You Quirk Out?

What are the quirky things we do to stay sane in Creve Coeur?

I rewrite my grocery list before I head out to .  Yes, I spend time to list everything I need in order it's arranged on the shelves.  And it's not that I'm ridiculously organized - I just HATE to be in the dairy section and realize I forgot cucumbers all the way back in produce.

When I confessed this little habit to my friend Diane, she totally outdid me. She sorts it all in an Excel spreadsheet according to the aisles at her Schnucks.

Then we got to talking... there are probably lots of women who develop quirky habits just to make life easier. Turns out, we were right.  We call it a "Quirk Out," a crazy habit that helps women stay sane. We started a blog, quirkout.com, as a place where women can share a Quirk Out or have fun reading about others. Some are completely rational, others frivolous. (But we don't judge!)

I have a 4 year-old son and 9 year-old daughter (more about me ).  So of course, my husband and I need the occasional night out, and getting a babysitter inspires a Quirk Out.  My husband is a high school teacher, and most of our sitters are his former students (awesome, right?).  I don't ever want to jeopardize this steady supply of sitters with gossip about a messy house.  So I spend hours scouring the house before a babysitter comes over.  I realize  teenagers don't notice dust on the floor boards. They don't care if the inside of the toilet bowl sparkles. They just want to get the kids to bed, eat my pantry clean and rent movies on my pay-per-view.  Still, I scrub as if my mother-in-law was on her way.

Do you do this too?

OK, now I've shared two of mine.  I can't wait to hear about your Quirk Out!  (And please be sure to like us on facebook and follow us on twitter!)
