Wear gloves while working outside to help reduce blisters and also skin contact with potentially harmful chemicals in pesticides and fertilizers, or irritants like poison ivy. Also, avoid prolonged repetitive motions – digging, raking or planting – that may irritate tendons or nerves.

Lawn mower injuries – particularly involving people cutting themselves while cleaning blades – are also common. If you cut yourself, and continuous pressure does not stop bleeding after 15 minutes, seek medical attention. Persistent numbness and tingling is also cause for medical intervention.

In Case Of A Fall

Because injuries from a fall aren’t always immediately obvious, it’s important to seek medical attention after any serious slip. Joint injuries, hip fractures, spinal injuries and even brain injuries are all possible. To prevent falls, educate yourself onthe proper use of any new ladder. Make sure the weight your ladder is supporting does not exceed manufacturer’s limits. Use a ladder with slip-resistant feet. Keep your body centered between the rails at all times.

Autumn is a great time to enjoy Mother Nature. Just remember to seek medical attention after any serious injury.
