Should The City of Creve Coeur Sell Fountain Park?

The City of Creve Coeur's strategic planning process will continue in a work session Monday night. One possibility could include evaluating the future of Fountain Park.

The city of Creve Coeur's discussions surrounding strategic planning in recent months has led to the creation of a draft document which will be discussed at a work session prior to Monday night's City Council meeting.

The document outlines five broad goals to be addressed over the next two years, including broad themes such as:

"The City of Creve Coeur will offer a superior mix of municipal services to provide safety and high quality of community life."

"The City of Creve Coeur will encourage a strong, diversified economic base that enriches quality of life in the city, preserves the integrity of residential neighborhoods and is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan."

A possibility within meeting that second goal involves considering the "sale or future uses of Fountain Park," located just east of Interstate 270. The fountain at Fountain Park has fallen into disrepair and has not been operable for several years. Under the draft plan, a city staff report would come up with a recommendation.

At the same time, the draft strategic plan also devotes attention to "identify and pursue opportunities that bring citizens together and foster a sense of community," with a main thrust being the idea of driving traffic to city parks and recreation facilities.

The idea of a library presence in the city, mentioned earlier in the brainstorming process as a possible place to bring people together is not mentioned by name in the document.

The work session begins at 6 p.m. prior to Monday's regulary scheduled meeting.
