Creve Coeur Firefighters and Other Resources Helping Out In Joplin

local manpower and money to help tornado recovery.

As the nation's eyes focus on tornado damage in Joplin, three members of the are spending their first full day in the devastated city for a 48 hour deployment.

The trio, which includes a fire captain and two firefighter/paramedics, are part of a team consisting of firefighters from St. Louis County. The team was activated Monday afternoon and met up with other fire and rescue crews at before departing for Joplin. It was unclear late Monday exactly what the specific role would be once they arrived, or if that deployment would be extended.

Also late Monday, Patch learned that some of the proceeds from a by the police departments in and Town and Country would be donated to help in tornado relief. It was not yet immediately clear which organization would receive the funds or the amount of the donation.

When asked Monday during a City Council meeting if there were plans for the city to provide aid, City Administrator Mark Perkins said he would expect to be in touch with the Missouri Municipal League about a possible coordinated response.

City crews have been aiding in cleanup efforts in Maryland Heights for the last three weeks since the outbreak in St. Louis.
