Favorite Italian Food: What's Your Choice in West County?

What do you recommend when friends ask for your favorite Italian restaurant?

Sicily, Naples or Florence? Pasta dishes, pesce dishes or roasted meats? When you think Italian food, what's the first place you think of?

This week, we're interested in your favorite West St. Louis County Italian spot. Every week on the West County Food Fight, we're looking the best places to dine and drink.

Please give your recommendations for places in our West County Patches: Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Ballwin, Ellisville, Eureka, Wildwood, Town and Country and Manchester.

We're making a little change to how we run Food Fight. Going forward, here's how we'll do it:

  • Every other Monday, we'll ask a question about your favorites.
  • We invite you to post your nominations in the comments below.
  • We hope you'll also spread the word about this every week to your friends on Facebook or Twitter and get them involved.
  • Submit comments until noon the following Friday.

Then:

  • We'll take the top nominees and post an article the next Monday.
  • That article will include a poll highlighting the top nominees.
  • You vote till noon the following Friday.
  • On Saturday, we announce the winner.

So where's your favorite spot for Italian food in West County?

So show your hometown pride and pick a place near you. Boast about that small family restaurant or other great eatery in your neighborhood.

And, if you are pulling for a certain restaurant, share this column on your personal Facebook page and Twitter feed and ask your followers to vote.

This column is all about you—your ideas, your feedback and your voice—so we hope you will chime in and check back.

Nicoletti's on Big Bend is by far the very best Italian restaurant. Their Steak Modiga is truly melt-in-your-mouth heaven!

Charlie Gittos from the Hill in Chesterfield. I think they took over the old UNO pizzaria. Their food, atmosphere and service is excellent.

Babbo's Spaghetteria in Chesterfield Commons in the Valley is my favorite. Fresh ingredients, authentic Italian dishes with huge portions. Spaghetti with the largest meatballs you've ever seen and the world's best lasagna both for just $10! What could be better than that!

I would say Hawthorne Inn in "way-west" county, but I know they don't qualify since they are in Franklin County. So I would nominate Joe Boccardi's in Eureka.

@Jean Hauser, so agree about Hawthorne Inn being a great restaurant and they are easy to frequent by being "just down the road" on Route 100. Too bad they're designation isn't St. Louis County for this contest. But after 41 years of creating authentic Italian dishes locally, Joe and Margaret (Boccardi) will be so proud of your nomination! Thank you for honoring them and what they still bring here from southern Italy.

Massa's deserves a nod as well.

Napoli II has the best veal dishes anywhere (as good or better then in JERSEY!!) The service is wonderful, the salads are the best!!! Napoli's is the best Italian Food in the area. ( John Mineo's a good second) But if I am just looking to get just a bowl of pasta: Rich and Charlie's on Woodsmill at Clayton. I will order the linguine w/ white clam sauce.
