Filing Closes For April Elections In Creve Coeur

Incumbents Nealey and Kistner file on last day for city council candidates to step forward.

The field of candidates for Creve Coeur City Council is all but set, as Tuesday's deadline to file for the April elections passed. The final day saw two incumbents, Ward One Councilwoman Beth Kistner, and Ward Two Councilwoman Tara Nealey, submit their paperwork seeking re-election, as expected.

Kistner will face Tony Kardis, a former Ladue science teacher. She said she hasn't learned anything about her opponent besides what she's read in Creve Coeur Patch. "I just realized that I feel really committed to the residents of Ward one and want to continue serving the residents," Kistner said before leaving the Creve Coeur Government Center Tuesday.

Nealey will have the honor of being the only incumbent to run unopposed in April. (Ward Three Councilman Robert Hoffman is seeking election in his own right, after his appointment last year to replace David Kassander, who had a year left on his term.) Nealey says she has worked to maintain a civil and professional tone on the council, and wants to continue to do a better job communicating with frustrated residents who may often feel like their voices aren't being heard. She says development issues are among the most important facing Ward Two. "What I hear mostly from people is they would like to see more of a community, pedestrian-oriented kind of downtown area. A lot of people have traffic concerns, lot of people have concerns about the vacant land and what’s going to be happening with that," she said.
