Video: Hula Hoopin' To Health In Creve Coeur

Mercy program urges employees to 'Healthify"

To mark National Employee Health and Fitness Day in 2011, . On Wednesday, the staff turned to another childhood pursuit to celebrate the event this year: Hula Hoops.

Employees came and went throughout the day to give fitness a twirl as part of a program nicknamed "Hoopin to Healthify".

“We’re tipping the scales,” said Lynn Britton, president and CEO of Mercy in a statement prior to the event. “Many of the states Mercy serves lead the nation in obesity. Sadly, our country’s youth are following in those footsteps. Through healthification and awareness, Mercy’s goal is to reverse the trend.”

In other Mercy locations around the country, there were obstacle courses, javelin throws, giant ring tosses. We spotted one employee playing a little hopscotch with the hoops. Employees could enter a drawing for a gift card and also received earbuds for their participating.

Antuian Bradford, a Wellness Coordinator, spoke to Patch about the event in the attached video.
