Jewish Family & Children's Services has announced that The Harvey Kornblum Food Pantry has received a major gift which will help efforts to relocate to a new facility in Creve Coeur.
Late last month, the agency announced that local philanthropists Max and Drew Erlich agreed to a $1 million gift to the food pantry, which has seen the need for its service outpace capacity.
According to a press release announcing the donation, the current food pantry site has typically seen 2500 customers a month until the current economic slowdown has boosted that number to 5000 a month, from around the St. Louis area.
The Harvey Kornblum Food Pantry is currently located at 10950 Schuetz Rd. in unincorporated St. Louis County. The new building will be at 10601 Bauer Rd. in Creve Coeur.
A grand opening ceremony, with invitations out to political leaders from Creve Coeur, the City of St. Louis, County officials and state and federal officeholders, is planned for October 21.
