Primary Day Still Attracts Creve Coeur Voters

Residents talk about the issues important to them, even though the primary election itself has lost some of the practical luster.

One poll worker working at wondered in jest if there had been an accident on the interstate as activity at the polls was fairly quiet Tuesday morning.

At other locations around Creve Coeur, there were signs of a typical voting day, only no signs supporting candidates actually on the ballot in Tuesday's presidential preference primary. Signs backing State Representative Jill Schupp (D-Creve Coeur) were all one could see, and she won't even be on the ballot for re-election until the fall.

But despite the fact that Missouri's primary on the Republican side voters still came to make their voice known, both as a show of patriotism and as citizens concerned about the world around them. The Missouri Secretary of State's office predicts turnout of near 23 percent.

Carol Frimel said the national debt, jobs and the economy where on top of her mind. "It's not a waste of time in my opinion. I will vote whenever I have an opportunity to express my views," she said.

Gewalt described himself as more "pro-gun" than Ron Paul, and had reservations with Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney, who he suggested would have difficulty debating President Obama on health care issues because of the reform Romney governed over in Massachusetts. Gewalt voted for former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

"I want to see him continue to bring issues forward," he said.
