Santorum, Blunt Start Rallying Around Todd Akin's Senate Campaign

Missouri's Republican U.S. Senate nominee picks up support from Rick Santorum and a Tea Party favorite in the Senate.

He says he's in it to win it.

With an official deadline having passed Tuesday night for candidates on the November ballot to petition via a court order for removal, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin's U.S. Senate bid is moving forward.

Akin, the Widwood Republican who had been cast out by party leaders at the national level as well as five current or former Missouri U.S. Senators who called for him to drop out of the race following his controversial remarks about rape and pregnancy last month, has recouped some of that support.

Tuesday night, Politico reported the following statement from U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, one of the five who urged Akin to get out of the race:

"Congressman Akin and I don’t agree on everything, but he and I agree the Senate majority must change. From Governor Romney to the county courthouse, I'll be working for the Republican ticket in Missouri, and that includes Todd Akin."

Wednesday, former Pennsylvania Senator and 2012 Presidential candidate Rick Santorum announced that he, along with South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint were backing Akin's campaign.

Another former Presidential hopeful, Newt Gingrich, was in Kirkwood Monday for an Akin fundraiser, and , would ultimately get behind Akin's candidacy next month rather than help Democrat Claire McCaskill get re-elected.

A message seeking comment from the Romney campaign was left Wednesday morning. The Republican National Committee has repeatedly said it would not support an Akin bid, even if he and McCaskill were tied.

Meanwhile, McCaskill has launched her first campaign television advertisement mentioning the "legitimate rape" comments.

Quick Quiz!
Who said "Republicans want to put the Black people Back in Chains"? Answer! That was JOE BIDEN--Our Democratic Vice President. Who ran an AD in a recent Presidential Election saying "If you vote Republican , another Black Church will burn down"? Answer! That was our own Missouri Democratic Party. Who Falsely accused 4 Young Men from Duke University Lacrosse Team of "Rape". Does any one out there want to define that Rape Claim? Do you even know about the case? 4 young men lives were destroyed. Families and friends still weep in hope for their boys to recover. One day , science may have better answers. Apology, we all got from Akin. NO APOLOGIES were ever received from our Vice-President's remarks and for the despicable Ads of our own Missouri Democratic party. MY MESSAGE to Roy Blunt and all Republicans who took the bait of the AKIN "media-mob-lynching". !!!!!!!!!YOU ARE ALL "WIMPS"!!!!!!!! Any person who cannot accept AKIN's apology would have to bleed "hypocrite" in not condemning our Vice-President and our Own Missouri Democratic Party's Racist numero Uno comments. Democrats are a disgrace to every African American. I await the day when the community of Black people see the real "Hypocrites" that surround them. Our modern day "lynchings" come from the "Vigilante Democratic Media Mob" Roy Blunt and soon many more "wimpy" Republicans will join to defeat McCaskill. That is what this race is all about. Welcome back "Wimps"

Sensible? I think so September 28, 2012 at 04:54 pm
Wrong again, Mr. Revere.
Three Duke lacrosse players were accused, not 4. "Do you even know about the case? " http://today.duke.edu/showcase/lacrosseincident/

More about the Ladue site than yours. Just seems like stories are staying up longer. Maybe its justRead More the summer doldrums.

I didn't notice sign-in issues for more than a day, but I don't sign in every time either. As forRead More "more stuff, less news," I agree with Fly - putting the blogs under the headlines in the same column can make it appear that blogs are news too. Unless it's mine, of course! ;) Guess the announcements take up more space, but don't ever seem to change. And if Patch is all about local, shouldn't there be fewer national ads - esp. the garbage ones like "5 Veggies that kill Belly Fat?" Ugh. Just my two cents...

Robin, no one local is buying ads to replace the national GoogleAds. No story about Monday's cityRead More council meeting. Guess it's hard for one editor to cover 2-3 cities.

Thomas, AMEN to this issue I raised earlier this year with the Chamber. Image is everything. And theRead More Olivette City Council saw this too and pulled the plug. Creve Coeur, not so much, LOL. Not sure what business you own but if I know and get the chance, I'll support you because your're a right-thinking kind of businessman who knows how to define LOCAL.

I think it's AMAZING the Creve Coeur/Olivette Chamber can't hold its golf tournament at the CREVERead More COEUR Golf Club, insider the Dielmann Rec. Complex, named after the Chamber's MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR. I'm amazed. Also not surprised.

Thanks for asking! I'm working on a follow up story on that. Do you live in Orchard Lakes? What doRead More you think?
Chris June 6, 2013 at 09:39 am
I live in the subdivision and I can not wait for these offers to come in and to find out what isRead More going to happen. I for one plan on taking it if it is good. The subdivision is in rough shape, the sewers are falling apart and too many of the owners have moved away and just rent the homes to people who are not taking care of them or they are switching out tenants every year. If this one fails another will come and sooner or later one will get it. The hold outs are getting older and the younger families are going to jump at a chance to get out of their homes with doing absolutely no repairs.

It IS kinda pea-soup green. I like it - supposed to evoke "grassroots" news, I think!
