The Sikh community in Creve Coeur and nationwide has been focused on Sunday's deadly shooting in Wisconsin.

According to a member of the Creve Coeur Sikh community, there are plans for a Wednesday vigil in St. Peters Wednesday to honor victims of Sunday's shooting at a Sikh facility in Wisconsin.

According to one of the Creve Coeur worshippers, there about 100 Sikh families in the St. Louis area between the Creve Coeur congregation, which meets Sundays at the Rose Hill Masonic Temple on Olive Boulevard and a Gurudwara (or "house of God") in St. Peters on Willis Road.

The vigil will be held at the St. Peters Gurudwara from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Vigil organizers stressed the event was open to the public and everyone, Sikh or not, is welcome to attend. Kanwal Seehra, a local Sikh woman who helps to run the Sikh Gurudwara St. Louis, said the more who show up, the better.

Seehra said the event in St. Peters is not just a candlelight vigil. She said cooking would take place. During the Milwaukee shootings, several women and some children were cooking  when the shootings happened and remained safe while hiding in the pantry.
