The Great Escape: Sneak off for a Thai Adventure this Sunday
Plane tickets are expensive, but the Thai Food Fair will give you a mini exotic getaway without breaking the bank
Sometimes all a mom wants is for someone else to make her some home cooked comfort food. This weekend, sneak over to Wat Phrasriratanaram, a Buddhist Temple in Florissant, for some honest to goodness home cooked Thai food made by actual moms and grandmothers.
Once a month, Wat Phrasriratanaram hosts a ; basically a buffet with around 40 different selections. Since these are Thai moms and grandmothers, instead of mashed potatoes and pot roast you’ll get rice mixes and pork satay.
It can be hard to indulge yourself on a budget. Luckily, the a la carte dishes are all $2-6, so for $10 or less you can pick and choose a good variety of Thai comfort food. This is also a great chance to check out genuine family recipes you won’t find on a restaurant menu. The moms and grandmothers who do the cooking are super friendly and love to introduce people to new foods.
Take the girls out for a traditional brunch next week. This week, spare your wallet while showing off your insider knowledge of north county. The buffet is open from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. You can eat in or get your food to go. Sunday’s high is supposed to be 68 degrees and overcast. If it’s a good day, grab a bottle of orange juice and champagne for mimosas and have a grown up only picnic in the park for pennies.
