Art in the Heart featuring members of the St. Louis Symphony

The Creve Coeur Arts Commission invites
the public to attend a free reception and show of artwork by local
art educators. The inaugural “Teachers for Tappmeyer Faculty Show” will
open Sunday, September 8, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Tappmeyer House located
in Millennium Park at 2 Barnes West Drive. The exhibition includes
installation, sculpture, drawings and photography from five artists in the
unique venue of an 1880's homestead. A docent will be available during the opening
to educate the public about the venue. The exhibition's reception is part of
Creve Coeur's Art in the Heart event which also includes a free performance
of the Symphony in Your Neighborhood, featuring
a brass quartet from the St. Louis Symphony, at 4:00 p.m. in
the pavilion at Millennium Park, and interactive circus
performances from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Food will be available for purchase
from food trucks on site from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., and coolers are also welcome.

Teachers for Tappmeyer is a
joint initiative of the Creve Coeur Arts Commission and the Tappmeyer
Foundation to use the Tappmeyer House
in Millennium Park as a venue to enrich local arts
curriculum. It provides educators a unique venue to professionally display
their own artwork, student artwork, and create special projects that address a
need to make more meaningful connections between arts students from multiple
schools. This first faculty exhibition will showcase the artwork of educators
from local schools including Bellerive Elementary, DeSmet Jesuit High
School, and Whitfield School.

Laurie A Kohler, Fine Arts Department
Chair at DeSmet Jesuit High School, co-organized a collaborative student show
with Whitfield High School art faculty in the Tappmeyer House venue space last
March.  Her own artistic output consisting of drawings, watercolor
painting and sculpture will now be on public display. Kohler stated she is
thankful for, "this opportunity for teachers to showcase our work and
collaborate with other area art teachers again."
