Mercy Hospital Joins Creve Coeur's Green Power Community Challenge

Join us for a free continental breakfast and celebration as we kick-off the Creve Coeur Green Power Community Challenge at Mercy Hospital, 615 S. Ballas Road on April 25th at 8:30am.

The Creve Coeur EPA Green Power Community Challenge (GPCC) has some great news!!! just catapulted ahead as a steward of the community by committing to be a Pure Power Platinum Level Sponsor.  Meaning that besides Mercy hospital being super awesome….they have committed to offsetting their electricity use by 5,964,000 kWh of electricity each year with Wind energy. Because of their commitment to support green power, they will prevent 9,066,532 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. Okay so in layman terms what does that really mean?! It means that not only is Mercy hospital showing true leadership in our community, but that their commitment is as good as removing 806 gasoline powered cars from the road every day for a year!!

Mercy hospital isn’t just taking care of patients, they are caretakers to the environment and have given new meaning to closing the loop by creating a healthier community through their environmental efforts. Their recycling program goes above and beyond by influencing their suppliers to decrease packaging and sending old equipment to be repurposed in other countries that need medical supplies all resulting in 341 tons being diverted from landfill in 2010. To take it a step further, Mercy has just opened the Mercy Restore where employees donate gently used items that are donated to patients and employees in need.  Additionally, they’ve started a new lights out campaign called “Better Off” where they are trying to reduce their electricity use by 10% through simple efforts like turning the lights off when leaving a room.

Mercy understands that a healthier planet means healthier people and they are doing their part to support this idea. Join us for a free continental breakfast while we recognize Mercy’s environmental efforts and kick-off the Creve Coeur Green Power Community Challenge (GPCC) at Mercy Hospital, 615 S. Ballas Road on April 25th at 8:30am. Help us kick-off the GPCC and celebrate Mercy hospital being an eco-hero in our community while learning more about the Green Power Challenge and how you too can become an eco-hero. The continental breakfast is free of charge and open to Creve Coeur businesses and residents who are interested in learning how they can help the City achieve this prestigious distinction.
