And if that same night you are hosting a recruitment dinner for 50 prospective students from area grade schools that includes a ticket to the evening’s matchup...you really, really hope for a great game.

The game on Friday, January 20th was a meaningful one for the Spartans. Not only were they celebrating a number of special attendees in the house that night, they were also meeting conference rival CBC for the third time this season. DeSmet had suffered a loss to CBC in the holiday Meramac Tournament but had answered back with a 22 point win over the Cadets two weeks ago. Tonight would settle the score. The game proved to be an exciting one with CBC taking an early lead but the Spartans turned it up and at halftime were out ahead by 9 points. However, the Cadets weren’t going away. They came back strong in the second half and the Spartans found themselves trailing in the last few minutes. But the Seniors, Alumni and all those young grade-schoolers couldn’t be disappointed, could they? The team rallied and gave it their best effort in the last minute of play to close the gap. Down two points with just 7 seconds left on the clock, the Spartans nailed a 3-pointer for the win and the DeSmet fans went wild! Everyone had hoped for a great game and on this special night, that’s just what these boys delivered.
