Missouri Baptist Spartan Mascot Is Getting A Facelift And a New Name Through Contest

The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics announced on Thursday it will hold a contest to re-name the Spartan mascot.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University Department of Athletics announced on Thursday it will hold a contest to re-name the Spartan mascot. The contest will be in-conjunction with Homecoming week activities, culminating in the announcement of the name on Thursday, Nov. 8 and the reveal of a brand new mascot costume.

The contest officially begins Thursday, allowing students to submit names directly to the Department of Athletics via email, Twitter or Facebook. The nomination process will end on Wednesday, Oct. 31 when a select group of campus staff and administration will narrow the group down to the top five.

“We are especially excited to have a new mascot costume to go along with this branding effort,” said Brad Cygan, Sports Information Director. “We felt it was time to refresh our look and have a real mascot that will have a definitively increased presence at our games and around campus.”

“Our MBU community will have the opportunity to make a big contribution to Missouri Baptist Athletics for years to come,” said Cygan. “We wanted to provide our fans an opportunity to have a direct impact in this process, so we expect students to have fun with this contest.”
