Midwest Phillies Take 1st Place in Greater Midwest Baseball Elite Fall Nationals Tournament

The Midwest Phillies took first place in the Greater Midwest Baseball Elite Fall Nationals tournament at T.R. Hughes Ballpark on September 29, 2013.  This was an elite 17U/18U tournament limited to six teams.

In the first pool game, the Midwest Phillies tied Mizuno Eagles 18U 1-1.  In the second pool game, the Phillies beat Easton St. Louis Tigers 5-2.  The Midwest Phillies seeded #2 and had a bye in the first round of bracket play.  In the tournament semifinal, the Phillies beat Rawlings Recruits 18U 5-2.  In the championship game, the Phillies shut out Mizuno Eagles 18U 3-0.

Players in the tournament were Midwest Phillies summer team members Garrett Taylor (Catcher – Parkway North), Matt Rizzo (Outfielder – Parkway North), Levi Greenberg (Pitcher – Ladue), Nick Lorenz (Pitcher – CBC), Ben Campbell (Infielder – Parkway North), Joey Hope (Pitcher – Parkway North), Thomas Higgins (Pitcher – Kirkwood), and Russell Susuki (Infielder – Parkway North).  Players joining for fall ball were Joey Reeves (Pitcher – Parkway North), Adam Faires (Pitcher- Parkway North), Ryan Daughety (Pitcher – Ft. Zumwalt South), and Brendan Riesmeyer (Outfielder – De Smet).
