Parkway Central Baseball Comes Back, tops Chaminade

Parkway Central erupts with a late game rally to comeback from a 4 run deficit against Chaminade.

Chaminade pitcher, Matt Mimlitz had the Colts locked down. That was until the Colts erupted with a four run comeback spanning the sixth and seventh innings and a walk off walk drawn by sophomore, Ben South in the eighth to top the Red Devils 5-4.

Central, who trailed for the first six innings of the game, failed to start any offense until the sixth inning when Zack Lazenby hit a double to centerfield, driving in Jordan Goldenberg and Brady Feigl.

“I wasn’t looking for a homerun or anything like that but I wanted to get some runs on the board and start the momentum” Lazenby said. “That’s what I do best on this team. I just want to put the ball in play and hit guys over.”

Later in the seventh, Jack Schneider tied the game with a bases loaded single through the left side of the infield.

“That was exciting. Coming out with the bases loaded I knew that I would have the opportunity to tie it up or take the lead. I was just hoping to get a single and do my job” Schneider said.

Lazenby started off the bottom of the eighth with another double before Brantley Lohkamp was walked. The Red Devils put Johnny Naughton on base intentionally to set the stage for Ben South who drew a game winning walk.

South, who has been catching on the varsity squad for nearly a month, said that his success correlates to his effort.

“[At the Varsity level] you have to be ready for everything. I just try to do my best and work hard so that I can keep up with the other guys” South said.

According to Schneider, Coach Ryan Connors’ post game speech was less than enthusiastic regarding the win. Schneider said that Connors felt as though the team stole the win away from Chaminade as opposed to winning outright.

Senior Brian Hillhouse pitched four innings, allowing four runs, three of which came in the first inning. Hillhouse said that he understands his coach’s view on the game.

“He had a lot of truth to him. He was kind of happy that we won that but he wasn’t happy with our attitude” Hillhouse said. “In the next couple of days we have to get our attitude together. Those first five innings can’t happen or we won’t win districts.”

The Colts host an exhibition on Thursday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4:15.
