Parkway Central Baseball Falls to Parkway North

After shutting out St. Charles, the Colts fell to Parkway North 6-4 in their second game in as many days.

The Vikings took the lead in the first inning after a wild pitch from Central’s Brady Feigl got away from senior catcher, Jordan Goldenberg.

Later, the Colts added two runs of their own. Courtesy running for Goldenberg, junior Sam Riley crossed the plate on a single from Brantley Lohkamp. Johnny Naughton batted Zack Lazenby home in the third to give the Colts their only lead of the game.

Riley embraces the opportunity to courtesy run, trying to make the most out of every opportunity that he has to score runs.

“I have kind of accepted the fact that I am here to run. If this is what I have to do to help this team win than that’s what I will do” Riley said. “I’m not going to get a lot of at bats this year but I am ready to do whatever it takes on the base paths to score runs and win games.”

Parkway North answered in the fourth with a two out rally. Senior, Andy Huss batted in Garrett Taylor before crossing the plate on an overthrow.

The Vikings scored two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to extend the lead to four.

Down 6-2 in the seventh, the Colts scored two runs on Naughton’s double to left field.

Joe hope pitched six innings for North before Joey Reeves relieved him, only pitching to Jack Schneider.  Junior, Jon Shanker closed the game for the Vikings, giving them the 6-4 win.

Feigl who pitched three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven Vikings said that he felt comfortable with his fastball throughout the first few innings, but added that it gave him problems as he continued into the fourth.

“I thought early in the game that I had a good fastball going. Late I got a little erratic with and that’s kind of what got me in trouble” Feigl said. “I just have to keep battling and stay focused.”

Junior Matthew Bernstein finished off the game for the Colts, subbing in for Matt Hresko in the fifth. In his second game as a varsity pitcher, Bernstein says that the nerves have disappeared.

“I just stepped on there and threw strikes. It felt nice” Bernstein said. “I went down to three ball counts two or three times out there. That was a little uncomfortable, but I just went back to the fastball to throw a strike and get the ground balls.”

The Colts will take on the Westminster Wildcats Wednesday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 4:15 at Parkway Central.
