Budgets Are Still Tight - Get Out For Free

Enjoy Latin rhythms, Baroque music or a tribute to Miles Davis this week, most events listed are free.

LET THEM EAT ART
When/Where: On Friday, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., in the city of Maplewood.
Why go: Enjoy a self-guided tour of Historic Dowtown Maplewood's shops and restaurants while being entertained by its eclectic mix of  artists and musicians. Activities and entertainment include live music, film screenings, belly dancing, face painting, dream interpretation,  artist showings and more.
Pricing: Free admission, cost of food and drink varies.

SOULARD FARMER'S MARKET TOUR
When/ Where: On Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Soulard Farmers Market.
Why go: Learn about different kinds of fruits and vegetables, their heath benefits, how to store them and tips on meal planning with Jessica Thenhaus. Learn the benefits of chard, kale, daikon radish and more. For more information call the market at 314-622-4180.
Pricing: Free

THE LITTLE MERMAID

When/ Where: Performances begin nightly at 8:15 p.m., at the Muny in Forest Park. The Little Mermaid opens Wednesday, July 6, through Thursday, July 14. 
Why go: Spend some family time together and watch Disney's, The Little Mermaid.
Pricing: Individual tickets range in price from $10 to $68. There are approximately 1,500 free seats in the last nine rows of the theatre available for every Muny performance. Free seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The free seat gates open at 7 p.m. each evening.

SOULARD MARKET PARK ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR

When/ Where: On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Soulard Market Park.
Why go: Meet local artists and listen to live music. For more information call the market at 314-622-4180.
Price: Free.

LEGACY JAZZ QUINTET - "MUSIC OF MILES DAVIS 1959-1968"
When/ Where: Performances will be at Jazz at the Bistro at 8:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m..
Why go: The quintet, led by pianist and Jazz St. Louis’ Director of Education Phil Dunlap, delves into one of the eras of Miles Davis legendary career.
Pricing: The cost is $20 per ticket.

RITMO CALIENTE
When/ Where: On Thursday, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Holmes Lounge, Washington University
Why go: Enjoy listening to Ritmo Caliente, one St. Louis' best Latin jazz-fusion bands. Ritmo Caliente is launching Washington University’s annual Jazz in July series.
Pricing: Free admission, coffeehouse-style seating.

JUNGLE BOOGIE CONCERT SERIES

When/ Where: On Friday evening from 5 p.m.  to 8 p.m. at the Schnuck Family Plaza near sea lion basin in center of the Zoo.
Why go: Listen to the music of  Push the Limit.
Pricing: Free.

GATEWAY FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA

When/ Where: On Sunday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Washington University Brookings Quadrangle.
Why go: Enjoy this classical music concert, conducted by James Richards, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The concert will feature music by Pachelbel, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Husa and Brahms.
Pricing: Free.
