Cold December 11th weather did not dampen the warm reception at the Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library in Creve Coeur when Rabbi Mark Shook spoke, answered provocative questions and cheerfully signed copies of his well-received debut novel – The Ezra Scroll.
The Ezra Scroll is an entertaining tale told by a nimble storyteller and it’s as relevant today as the morning headlines. Shook weaves 2,500 years of Jewish History, both ancient and modern, as he introduces readers to an American Jewish Marine, an Iraqi-born Israeli archaeologist and a feisty female Rabbi Naval Chaplain. Throw in some Samaritans, Israeli counter-terror operatives, and American televangelists and it all makes for a fast-paced and unexpected thriller.
