Caring for St. Louis for 100 years - VNA continues the tradition
Visiting Nurses have been taking care of St. Louisans for 100 years!! The caring tradition carries on!
Visiting Nurses have been around for a very long time. 100 years to be exact. The Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis has been taking care of St. Louisans since 1911. Nurses were in great need then, and took care of patients in their homes. We took care of mothers and babies, children, elders and everyone in between. We were there during the flu epidemic in 1918 and we are still promoting good health with flu vaccine now. The number one preventative measure that you can take now, that wasn't around in 1918, is the flu vaccine. During the epidemic many lives were lost to the flu, as there was no protection against the virus. Today we have the protection of flu vaccine in many forms. There is the nasal vaccine, which is very effective in healthy children and adults until the age of 49. There is preservative free vaccine for those that may have an allergy or a preference or are pregnant. There is the High Dose vaccine for Seniors...it protects them faster and stronger than the regular flu shot. There is the regular flu shot which protects everyone in between. There are many ways to help stay healthy during flu season: washing hands, staying away from sick people, and staying home if you are sick. But the number one way to keep the flu away is a flu shot.
