Close to 30 cyclists riding in the Journey for Jordan, a cyclist event to benefit , arrived in Creve Coeur on Monday, June 25 at 1 p.m. Over 100 supporters gathered to welcome the riders with a barbeque lunch.  During lunch, Kathy Sindel, Executive Director of HavenHouse St. Louis, announced the riders had blown past their fundraising goal of $10,000 and had raised over $32,000!

Named in honor of Jordan Giertz the inaugural Journey for Jordan ride began on Saturday, June 23 in his hometown of Gays, Illinois wrapping through Vandalia, Alton and St. Charles before ending the 168 mile trail at HavenHouse St. Louis on Olive Blvd. on Monday, June 25.

Jordan Gietrz passed away in December, 2011 following a long battle with bone cancer. His parents, Mike and Peggy Giertz, established Journey for Jordan in recognition of Jordan’s love of cycling. Throughout his battle, Jordan and his family made many trips to St. Louis for medical treatment. The family stayed at HavenHouse St. Louis over 15 times.

“Jordan just loved the way HavenHouse made him feel as though he was part of the family here. They open the doors to everyone and made Jordan’s life easier,” said Peggy Giertz. “Everyone knows your name here, you are not just a number. When Jordan passed away, we made all of the memorial out to HavenHouse.”

“When Jordan was younger he used to take 50 mile bike rides, he just loved being outside,” Mike Giertz said. “At HavenHouse St. Louis he could enjoy the outdoors. We honor Jordan and keep his memory alive when we ride to raise funds for HavenHouse and the families that travel to St. Louis for medical care.”
