7-Year-Old Girl Accidentally Shot in Leg in West County, Police Say

A 7-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the leg in a West County home Thursday evening, St. Louis County Police said.
Police said the girl was shot when a purse fell off a kitchen table and a Cobra .38 inside the purse fired at about 6 p.m. The bullet hit the girl in her right leg. 
The home is in the 12300 block of Tempo Drive in unincorporarted St. Louis County. The area is between Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights.
Police said the girl was treated at Mercy Hospital, but the wound was minor.
The gun belonged to the homeowner, Sondra Taylor, according to a police report.
The 7-year-old is the daughter of a massage therapist who was at the home to give massages to Taylor and her daughter, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Police said Taylor and the girl’s mother are friends.
Officers are investigating the incident and notified children’s services, but the shooting is being classified as an accident. Police seized the weapon, but no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
