Creve Coeur Police Raise Money For Charities & Officers In Need

Every year, members of the team with their counterparts in Town and Country to hold a charity golf tournament to benefit causes around the St. Louis area. 

The tallies are still coming in from this year's event, held May 25 at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, IL, but the approximately $35,000 in proceeds are already flowing. Matt Crosby, a former Rock Hill Police Officer who was paralyzed after being shot during a domestic assault call in 2010, received $500.

Not long after the tournament was held, another local officer found himself in need. On May 28, Florissant Police officer Mike Vernon was shot in the line of duty and while the prognosis is not final, Vernon faces the possibility of paralysis.

Representatives from Creve Coeur and Town and Country Police presented a check for $500 from the tournament at a weekend fundraiser for Vernon.

How Was The Money Raised?

Among those in the field for this year's tournament, were former Cardinals Manager Whitey Herzog, former St. Louis Blues Al, MacInnis, Keith Tkachuk and Bobby Plager. Tony Twist ran a memorabilia auction which included items from the Blues, Rams and the Cardinals, raising $4,000 according to Creve Coeur Police Officer Neal Kohrs, who helped organize the event with Town and Country Police Officer Paul Wilson.

For $125, participants got a round of golf, lunch from , and drinks on the course. In addition to the auction, there was also a chance for holes-in-one for prizes like a motorcycle or an Audi A5 from Plaza Motors valued at roughly $59,000. Nobody won the motorcycle, but Dan McGinnis from Kirkwood landed the car thanks to a 190 yard drive on the 4th hole.

The event has raised roughly $120,000 for charities over the life of the tournament. Agencies like the Ronald McDonald House, Backstoppers, MADD and Responder Rescue have received proceeds over the years.
