De Smet Alerts Alumni To Abuse Allegation

has reached out to alumni after a former student came forward with allegations of sexual abuse from a former teacher and coach at the school.

In a statement released Friday, the school said in part:

"It is our understanding the alleged abuse did not occur on school property. We take seriously any allegation of abuse and, together with the alumnus, we have reported this matter to law enforcement and an investigation is under way. We are also in the process of communicating with parents of current students and alumni of the school."

Earlier this week, announced that an investigation into sex offenses was recently brought to the department's attention. The victim claimed the offenses took place at a home in the area of Emerson Road and Old Ballas Road, an area which was later redeveloped into office space.

A department spokesman told Patch that the allegations were credibe enough to forward to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney, but that charges were not filed because the statute of limitations had expired.

Friday night it was unclear if this was the same set of allegations as the De Smet case.
