Flash Flooding Strands Drivers, Backs Up Traffic

Heavy downpours in Creve Coeur and St. Louis County created traffic trouble around the area, leading to what authorities described as some "frantic phone calls" from motorists needing help.

The area around Ladue Road and Spoede Road was closed Monday afternoon due to flooding, and there were reports of nearly half a dozen water rescues, including this one tweeted out by KMOV's Jasmine Huda showing a water rescue in the area of Ballas Road.

Creve Coeur Fire Protection district spokesman Jerry McQueen confirmed there were 4-5 calls for rescues in the Ballas area but said that no one was transported for medical treatment.

Traffic was drawn to a standstill around much of the area, with busy thoroughfares like Ladue Road, Olive Boulevard and other streets transformed into virtual "parking lots".

Robin Tidwell shared these pictures of a flooded neighborhood around Schulte.
