Police Say DWI Suspect From Creve Coeur Had Handgun Tucked in Waistband

The man was charged Monday for the Nov. 29 incident on South Outer 40 Road at South Spoede.

A Creve Coeur man faces criminal charges for carrying a concealed weapon and driving while intoxicated last year in Frontenac.

Daryl E. Mitchell, 55, of the 12500 block of Clark Manor Circle in Creve Coeur, was charged Monday with unlawful use of a weapon and driving while intoxicated as a prior offender.

Frontenac Police said Mitchell sitting was in his car with the engine running on South Outer 40 Drive at South Spoede Road on Nov. 29. Officers approached him and saw he appeared to be drunk and subsequently failed sobriety tests, according to a police report.

Police also said he had a concealed .32 cal Beretta handgun tucked in his waistband.

Records show Mitchell previously pleaded guilty in University City municipal court to driving while intoxicated in an incident on July 22, 2009.

Bail was set at $15,000 for Mitchell.
