In the last couple of weeks, there have been a number of thefts from parked vehicles in residential areas throughout Creve Coeur. Most of the thefts were from unlocked vehicles.
Here are some tips to help you protect your property:
Don’t make it easy
Keep windows and sunroofs closed and doors locked.
Hide your valuables
Keep your valuables out of sight – either with you or in a locked trunk.
Take it with you
It is recommended to take valuables with you. Don’t forget telltale signs such as power plugs, MP3 adapters and navigation system mounts. Thieves look for these clues.
Don’t hand a thief your keys
Take your keys with you. Criminals search above the visor, in the center console, under the floor mat, and in the trunk for keys and other small valuables.
Trust your instincts
If you see suspicious activity, find a safe spot to park and call the police! If possible, attempt to safely obtain as much descriptive information on the suspicious activity, such as a vehicle description and license plate.
Combining these safety tips and reporting suspicious activity to the police can help reduce the risk of being a victim. If you see something out of place or anyone acting suspicious, please call the Creve Coeur Police at 314-737-4600.
