Viewfinder: Creve Coeur Days Dinner

Annual event is sponsored by the Creve Coeur Squires and serves as a kickoff to the annual carnival, as well as a way to honor law enforcement.

The annual festivities don't start until Thursday on the campus of , but the event got a ceremonial kickoff Tuesday with the annual dinner, sponsored by the Creve Coeur Squires.

The event, held at Spazio's in Westport, also served as a way to honor the Police Officer of the Year, Richard Wiginton. Wiginton was announced as the winner in a c.

The Chamber's co-winners of the Firefighter of the Year award were Captain Paramedic Jim Younce, who has been with the for six years, and Peg Shannon, a Paramedic-Firefighter, with 13 years of service. Both were recognized for their humanitarian service thousands of miles away from Creve Coeur. Younce participated in earthquake medical relief efforts in Haiti as part of Project Helping Hands in April 2010, and even delivered a child while he was there. Shannon was feted for her work providing medical care in a part of Kenya ravaged by AIDS.
