Woman Alerted Police to Drunk Driver, Creve Coeur Police Say

The driver had two previous DWI arrests, and admitted to police she mixed alcohol and prescription medicine.

A woman alerted Creve Coeur Police to a driver who appeared to be drunk on Olive Boulevard, and police pulled the woman over, according to a report.

Lucy Murphy, 50, of the 11900 block of Charter Oak Parkway just north of Creve Coeur, was charged Jan. 23 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender, a felony. Police said she had two prior DWI convictions.

Creve Coeur Police said they received a call at 5:02 p.m. Jan. 22 from a woman who said a driver had stopped to ask her for directions. The driver appeared lost, disoriented and slurred her speech, the woman told police. She provided a car description and a license plate number.

An officer said he spotted the car going east on Olive, turned north onto Craig Road and then turned into the Dierbergs lot and parked. After 20 minutes, no one got out of the car, so the officer checked on the woman, police said.

The officer said Murphy smelled like alcohol and had bloodshot and glassy eyes. Murphy said she’d been drinking alcohol and taking prescription medication, according to the report.

The officer said she did poorly on a sobriety test and was arrested. She later took a breathalyzer, which showed her blood-alcohol content was 0.222 percent, according to court documents.

Murphy posted a $15,000 bond and was released from jail Jan. 25.

Murphy has two previous DWI convictions. She pleaded guilty Oct. 19, 2011 to a DWI charge, also in Creve Coeur; and she pleaded guilty Dec. 5, 2007 to DWI in Frontenac.
